Questions to Ask Your 3PL Provider: For MultiChannel Fulfillment Brands
13:27

Choosing the right 3PL provider means finding a partner that can deliver fast, accurate, scalable fulfillment while staying focused on what matters most to your business: order accuracy, inventory management, vendor compliance, and the customer experience your brand is built on. The decision carries real weight, because your fulfillment partner directly affects your ability to grow, sell across channels, and keep your promises to customers.

Whether you sell through retail, ecommerce, marketplaces, or all three, finding a multichannel fulfillment partner that fits comes down to asking the right questions. We recommend evaluating providers across three key areas: capabilities, reliability, and compatibility.

Below, we’ve provided a list of important questions to ask your 3PL or prospective 3PL, along with our answers.

Capabilities

To determine whether a 3PL fulfillment partner is a good fit, start by assessing its capabilities. Does it provide the specific services you need? Does it have the warehouse space and configuration to store your products safely? Are its systems flexible enough to support your goals as you scale? Here are some questions to ask.

What 3PL services do you provide?

Every brand’s channel mix is different, and your fulfillment program should reflect that. QuickBox builds multichannel fulfillment solutions around the way you actually sell. Our offerings include:
•    Retail fulfillment
•    Direct-to-consumer (DTC)
•    Subscription fulfillment
•    Amazon marketplace services
•    Reverse logistics
•    Value-added services
Wondering if we can handle your specific type of product? Just ask!

Do you have the infrastructure to support my needs?

QuickBox’s 11 fulfillment center locations cover 3.1 million square feet in seven U.S. regions.  Several of these sites are FDA-registered, and all of our locations are fully operated and managed by QuickBox.

We have the storage capacity and staff to handle large order processing, and our space is configurable for bulk, rack, pick-and-pack storage, and value-added services.

Vendor Compliance & Special Handling

How do you handle vendor compliance and retailer requirements?

Vendor compliance is one of the most overlooked risks in multichannel fulfillment. Missed routing guides, incorrect labeling, and late shipments lead to chargebacks that quietly erode margins. QuickBox keeps you in compliance with your retailers’ requirements, including data sharing, labeling, and scheduling. We offer robust EDI integration and real-time visibility, so you always know the status of your shipments.

Depending on your product, you may also have specialized warehousing and handling requirements. For beauty, wellness, and personal care brands, we operate seven FDA registered warehouses with temperature control and lot tracking built into our standard processes, and we are experts at fulfillment to retailers like Sephora, Ulta, med spas, etc.

Capacity & Scalability

Can you support my current shipping volumes and requirements?

QuickBox has the staffing and storage capacity for large order processing, and we can meet your distribution needs, whether you’re shipping direct-to-consumer, to independent boutiques, or to nationwide retail chains. Across our nationwide network, we have the experience to ensure your products get where they need to go as seamlessly as possible.

Will you be able to support an increase in demand? How much capacity for growth do you have?

QuickBox maintains headroom across our network so our clients always have room to grow, whether that means a step-change in order volume, a new SKU line, or expansion into a new region. When a client's growth outpaces existing capacity, we stand up new facilities quickly.

How do you handle volume fluctuations?

Peak season, social commerce spikes, and viral product moments can all strain a fulfillment operation. We work closely with our clients to plan ahead for volume fluctuations. In addition to our efficient warehouse configuration, we use flexible technology that provides real-time visibility of your inventory and is easy to update without extensive time or cost.

Our strategic mix of full-time and temporary warehouse associates allows us to scale our staff up or down quickly to meet your needs for every season.

For example, in 2025, we shipped 280,000+ packages on Black Friday alone.

On that same day, one of our clients experienced a 201% increase in average daily order volume. Because we plan collaboratively with our clients, we were ready for the spike and maintained 100% on-time shipments throughout.

Returns & Reverse Logistics

How do you handle returns?

QuickBox offers a comprehensive reverse logistics program capable of managing returns, restock-eligible items, and non-sellable units across DTC and B2B channels. Designated returns personnel are trained to process returns through brand-specific refund and disposition protocols if required. Returns are processed within 48 business hours of receipt.

Reliability

If you’ve found a 3PL fulfillment partner that has the capabilities you need, the next step is to assess its reliability. This might seem like a subjective area, but it simply comes down to whether your needs, and your customers’ needs, are consistently being met. That can be predicted by the 3PL’s experience, technology, performance reporting, and management of customer relationships.

Experience

How long have you been providing third-party logistics (3PL) services?

QuickBox was founded in 2009 by partners who saw a gap in 3PL solutions tailored to e-commerce brands and retailers, and we have been closing that gap ever since. Our team is built on the principles of efficiency and innovation, and our leadership brings over 100 years of combined logistics experience with backgrounds at leading 3PL companies including Geodis, GXO, Kuehne + Nagel, PFS, OHL, IFS, and NGL.

Have you worked with clients in my industry before? Have you handled similar products to ours?

We worked with clients across a broad range of industries, including:

•    Beauty and cosmetics
•    Nutrition and supplements
•    Consumer packaged goods (CPG)
•    Housewares
•    Small appliances
•    Pet care
•    Luggage & Travel

Don’t see your industry or product type listed? Ask us about it. There’s a good chance we have experience supporting clients in your industry.

Security & Safety

How will you protect my goods? What security measures do you have in place?

As an extension of your team, we are dedicated to protecting your inventory. Our facilities are equipped with CCTV cameras at entry points, loading docks, and storage areas to ensure 24/7 monitoring & surveillance.
We ensure your products’ safety by providing a well-organized warehouse, continuously looking for ways to improve our practices, and being committed to employee training.

Technology, Integrations & Performance

How do you manage and track inventory?

We conduct regular inventory control measures, and we can support year-end inventory counts or year-round cycle counts. Our warehouses are equipped with advanced technology and integration support. As a QuickBox client, you’ll have visibility into your real-time data, including inventory, orders, and sales through our WMS.

Can your systems integrate with my existing processes and systems?

We provide easy implementation setup for all major EDI providers and ecommerce platforms. Our in-house tech and operations teams are skilled at making integrations quickly and seamlessly, both in tech systems and on the warehouse floor.

How do you measure and report on performance? Which metrics do you track?

We tailor performance metrics and reporting to each client. Your measures of success are unique to your business, whether that means orders per day, speed to home, inventory accuracy, or a combination of metrics. We build reports around the numbers that matter most to your brand.

Customer Relationships

What does your customer support look like?

QuickBox is known for our high-touch customer service. Each of our clients has a dedicated customer success representative supported by a team that boasts a 24-hour or less response time guaranteed. No ticketing systems, no transfers between departments, just direct communication with someone who knows your operation thoroughly and can resolve issues immediately.

What updates or communications do you provide throughout the shipping process?

We can provide updates at every stage of the fulfillment process. Like our reporting and performance metrics, our communications can be customized to your needs. Let us know what makes the most sense for you, and we’ll meet you there.

Compatibility

Logistical compatibility is another key area to assess when choosing a 3PL provider. A reliable 3PL may have all the right capabilities but still not be a good fit for your business. For example, if your goods are produced overseas, you’ll likely want a provider that has locations near major ports of entry. Also consider the coverage area of the 3PL and whether it can efficiently get your products where they need to go. Finally, be sure to ask about pricing, especially whether there will be any hidden fees.

Location & Coverage

Where are your facilities located?

Our logistics network spans seven strategic regions across the U.S., from the Northeast to Southern California. Our fulfillment centers are in the following regions: Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, the California Inland Empire, Los AngelesMemphis, and New York /New Jersey.

What is your coverage, and does it meet my needs?

Our eleven strategically located facilities enable us to reach 95% of the US within 2 days, and we work closely with our trusted partners for international shipping. Our operations are equipped to run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Pricing & Parcel Savings

What is your pricing structure?

We do not have standardized pricing, rather we align pricing around each brand’s specific needs, channels, and requirements.

How can you help me reduce parcel shipping costs?

Parcel spend is often the largest line item in a fulfillment budget, which also makes it the fastest place to find savings.

Our Dynamic Parcel Program (DPP) rate shops across our carrier network in real time and matches each order to the most cost-effective service that still meets your delivery promise.

This shipping optimization initiative also leverages a mix of national and regional carriers to reduce costs while improving transit times.
Most brands see meaningful parcel savings within their first few months.

Do you have any hidden fees?

QuickBox’s financial model is grounded in transparency, predictability, and partnership. Our pricing structure is clearly defined, with no hidden fees or unexpected charges. All rates are detailed upfront, and our invoicing is designed to be fully auditable and easy to reconcile. This approach enables your brand to forecast fulfillment costs with confidence and eliminates the friction of unclear billing practices.

Additional Questions for Beauty and Wellness Brands to Ask their Prospective 3PL

Beauty and wellness products carry regulatory and handling requirements that many 3PLs are not equipped to support. Here are the questions we hear most often from brands evaluating a beauty 3PL.

Are your fulfillment centers FDA registered?

Yes. QuickBox offers seven FDA registered warehouses that support beauty, wellness, supplement, and personal care brands. FDA registration means our facilities meet the standards required to store and handle regulated products, with the documentation and audit readiness to back it up.

Can you handle OTC products?

Yes. We maintain OTC compliant sites equipped for over-the-counter products such as sunscreens, acne treatments, and topical formulations. Our teams follow the storage, handling, and record-keeping practices these products require.

Do you offer temperature-controlled storage?

Yes. We provide temperature-controlled warehousing for products that are sensitive to heat or cold, including skincare, supplements, and other wellness items. Consistent climate conditions protect product integrity from receiving through final delivery.

How do you manage lot control and expiration dates?

Our WMS tracks inventory at the lot level, including expiration dates. That supports first-expired, first-out (FEFO) picking, fast and precise recall response, and full traceability on every order. For beauty and wellness brands, lot control is fundamental to both compliance and customer trust.
